Historic Inns Of Annapolis Hotel Reviews
Maryland Inn - Definitely stay away
Date:
03/28/2005
Just came back from a stay at the Maryland Inn and it was a dump. I wish I had read these reviews first – everything said is on target. The convenience of location is the ONLY thing it has going for it. Originally my family was going to be placed in the convention center (1980’s) section of the Governor Calvert House, but since we wanted to actually stay in a “historic inn” we asked for another room. This must have ticked them off, because they sent us off to a badly decorated dingy room with peeling paint and plaster in the Maryland Inn. I had to call housekeeping twice to get a luggage stand and extra towels, so we each would have one, and got an attitude rather than courtesy. In the cramped bathroom, the walls and the tub paint were peeling and the diverter on the shower was not working so only a dribble of cold water came out of the showerhead. The drain was not working either so the water half-filled the tub. Needless to say we asked to move to another room. They sent us to a better-looking room in the Maryland Inn - still peeling plaster and paint, but at least this one had wallpaper on one wall and some attempt at décor. The tub still drained poorly and apparently leaked through the ceiling into the lobby below. The biggest problem was the noise – the hotel is wedge-shaped and fits in to the triangle where two busy streets meet. There is a restaurant and popular bar in the basement of the building. There were shouting drunks, thumping music, traffic noise and sirens until very early in the morning. Apparently the state congress was in session that weekend and meeting down the street, which may account for why there was so much activity. In addition in the room directly above us, they apparently placed a volleyball team which sounded like they were coming through the ceiling. Parking is also a problem – valet parking with the hotel is $18 per night and there is hardly any alternative on the streets. Definitely stay away.
